Stage 2 Drought Restrictions Now in Effect!

Effective July 30, 2026, Mustang SUD shall implement mandatory water-use restrictions under Stage 2 of its Drought Contingency Plan.

Our area continues to experience high temperatures that affect the availability of surface water to be treated and for use. Water demand has reached a level that is causing strain on the water distribution systems.

The following mandatory restrictions are currently effective:

• Landscaping (including lawns) may not be watered by automatic irrigation systems and hose-end sprinklers more than one time per week and may be watered only between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
• Customers with addresses ending in an even number can water on SUNDAY only.

• Customers with addresses ending in an odd number can water on WEDNESDAY only.

• Irrigation of landscaped areas and building foundations is permitted for a maximum of two hours on any day by means of a hand-held hose, drip irrigation or soaker hose systems.
• The establishment of new sod and other landscaping plants is prohibited.
• Customers may not use water for recreation (water used for leisure and entertainment purposes) including the prohibition on the use of faucets or hoses in such a manner that creates runoff or other wastes.
• Customers may not fill, drain, and refill existing swimming pools, wading pools, Jacuzzis or hot tubs except to maintain structural integrity, proper operation and maintenance or to alleviate a public safety risk. Existing pools may add water to replace losses from normal use and evaporation.
• Permitting of new swimming pools, wading pools, Jacuzzis and hot tubs is prohibited. If a permit for a new swimming pool, wading pool, Jacuzzi and hot tub was received prior to implementation of Stage 2, owners may fill with water no more than one time, if necessary, to prevent structural damage.
• Customers may not operate ornamental fountains or ponds that use potable water except where supporting aquatic life or water quality.
• Hosing off paved areas, buildings, windows or other hard surfaces is prohibited. (Normal window washing is okay.)
• Washing or rinsing of vehicles is restricted to the premises of a commercial car wash.

These mandatory water use restrictions may be enforced by any combination of warnings, suspension of service, monetary penalties, citations, and fees.
