Winter Storm Watch Issued!
January 21, 2026
As of January 21, 2026 at 2:08 AM, the National Weather Service in Ft. Worth has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of North and Central Texas from January 23rd at 12 PM until January 25th at 6AM.
A significant intrusion of Arctic air and impactful wintry precipitation will affect all of North and Central Texas from Friday afternoon/evening through the upcoming weekend. Impacts to travel and infrastructure are expected across all of North and Central Texas due to a combination of freezing rain/ice as well as sleet and snow, while temperatures stay below freezing for an extended period.
A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect for the entirety of North and Central Texas starting Friday afternoon and continuing through late Saturday night. Plan ahead for travel impacts and power outages, and monitor forecasts in the coming days for up-to-date information.

In addition to wintry precipitation, dangerously cold temperatures are also forecast through the upcoming weekend. After temperatures fall below freezing on Friday evening, they will remain below freezing into Monday for much of the area, and even into Tuesday across portions of North Texas.
There is also a greater than 50% chance for most of the area to fall below 10 degrees both Saturday night and Sunday night, and this will put pipes at significant risk.
Cover exterior faucets, open cabinets under your sink and drip indoor faucets, locate your water shut-off valve and know how to turn it off. Turn off sprinklers, these will create icy surfaces!

NOW is the time to take preparations for the expected winter weather arriving Friday and impacting North and Central Texas through the weekend.
- For family, friends, and pets: Keep enough non- perishable food, water, & medications for at least 3 days, bring pets indoors or provide adequate warmth, update your first aid kit, and charge your phone ahead of time.
- For your home: Install and or test heaters, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, cover outdoor pipes and seal doors/windows. Ensure safe use of portable heaters and/or generators. Gather flashlights, batteries, candles, and extra blankets.
- For your car: Make sure your gas tank is full and prepare an emergency kit including first aid, cell phone charger, jumper cables, blankets, water, snacks, and an ice scraper/brush.
